Because we can / Ubuntu

The Kenyan literary scholar James Ogude believes ubuntu might serve as a counterweight to the rampant individualism that’s so pervasive in the contemporary world. "Ubuntu is rooted in what I call a relational form of personhood, basically meaning that you are because of the others," said Ogude, speaking to Steve Paulson and Anne Strainchamps in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

"In other words, as a human being, you—your humanity, your personhood—you are fostered in relation to other people."

In practice, ubuntu means believing the common bonds within a group are more important than any individual arguments and divisions within it.  "People will debate, people will disagree; it's not like there are no tensions," said Ogude. "It is about coming together and building a consensus around what affects the community. And once you have debated, then it is understood what is best for the community, and then you have to buy into that."

"Because we can" is a mantra used by De'Leigh in response to the question "why should we...?

De'Leigh recognises the opportunities that are open when working with organisations, with individuals or whether through its publications, briefing papers and reports to heighten the profile and actuality of doing the right thing even when nobody is looking. In making or contributing to others we will not use this opportunity as a marketing ploy in an open show of "look how good we are" we do it privately and affording the recipient the dignity they deserve.

Donations

De'Leigh will, where ever possible donate to organisations that promote, improve and encourage equity in health and education, we will actively and as a matter of cause and service delivery include additional  good practice and added value across all of our projects and contracts.

Pro - bono

We also work on a Pro-bono basis for new business start ups and not for profits, we do this because we can and because we believe that by starting with the right foundations in place, success and good practice will follow.  De'Leigh will carry no more that two Pro-bono contracts at any one time, Pro-bono contracts are accepted subject to individual merit.

De'Leigh donates a percentage of each contract to a UK registered Charity chosen by the contracting client.
